ISLAMABAD, Jun 8: Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) Rana Asad Amin has said his institution is responsible for conducting audit of all government departments and is answerable to Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on this count.
He said this while talking to media men in his office after taking oath of his slot here Monday.
He said that unprecedented damage was caused to this vital department during the last four years and the outstanding and competent officers were sidelined. ” We will bring forward these officers again”, he vowed.
He held that the attention of this department was diverted from its original function owing to adoption of policy of confrontation with government institutions.
He maintained ” there is no room for corrupt officers in this department. “We will bring transparency and reforms in this department”, he added.
Un-fortunately audit objections are pending since 15 to 20 years in different government departments and the officers found responsible for them either die or are retired but audit objections stay. “We will change this system entirely and dispose of audit objections on annual basis”, he declared.
Responding to a question he said former auditor general has been removed by Supreme Judicial Council.
Earlier Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, Chief Justice of Pakistan administered the oath of the office to Rana Asad Ameen as Auditor General of Pakistan in a simple but dignified ceremony.
Federal Finance Minister, Secretary Ministry of Finance, Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs and officers of Auditor General of Pakistan attended the ceremony.
Tahir Shahbaz, Registrar Supreme Court of Pakistan conducted the proceedings of oath taking ceremony. Officers and staff of the Supreme Court of Pakistan were also present at the occasion.
