HESCO, FIA raiding teams unearth 950 illegal kunda, Rs310 million recovered

HYDERABAD, Jul 22: Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) under instructions from Federal Minister for Water and Power, Abid Sher Ali formed 54 special raiding teams which are operating jointly with the help of FIA for speedy recovery of outstanding bills from defaulters and eliminate electricity stealing from root level under Director Surveillance Malik Imtiazul Haque, HESCO spokesman told.

During the ongoing operation at Shaheed Umeed Ali subdivision Guddu Naka, Ya Ali Madad Colony, Kotri Road and 450 illegal kunda removed, 100KV power transformer grounded using crane on the directives of Director Surveillance Malik Imtiazul Haque and also lodged FIRs at Hussainabad Police Station against power thieves caught red-handed.

Three more 50KV transformers were also grounded from Memon Old City, Tando Ghafoor Shah, Jahanian against default of Rs32,41,000 outstanding bills and 500 illegal kunda removed, SDO Qasimabad reported.

It is pertinent to mention here that HESCO has to recover Rs20.5 billion outstanding bills from 216,113 residential, commercial and tube well defaulter consumers and out of which Rs12.67 billion outstanding as on June 2012 while, remaining Rs7.38 billion pertaining to the period upto June 2015 and Government of Pakistan has already announced ‘Concessional Payment Package’ and defaulters can avail 30 percent waiver on 100 percent payment of outstanding dues upto June 30, 2012 together with current outstanding bills; if paid by July 31, 2015 OR avail 25 percent waiver on 100 percent payment of outstanding dues upto June 30, 2012 together with current outstanding bills; if paid by August 31, 2015 OR avail 20 percent waiver on 100 percent payment of outstanding dues upto June 30, 2012 together with current outstanding bills; if paid by September 30, 2015.

After expiry of ‘Concessional Payment Package’, NAB (National Accountability Board) will nab the defaulters and start their legal action against them while, HESCO raiding teams will also continue to recover dues from defaulters with the help of FIA; irrespectively.

HESCO Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Saleem Jaat given clear instructions to 54 special raiding teams for 100 percent recovery of outstanding bills from payment defaulters and immediate disconnections on non-payment, arrange Open Katchery for prompt resolution of consumers’ billing complaint and stern actions against irresponsible HESCO staff.

General public, consumers are once again urged to pay their outstanding electricity bills as soon as possible to avoid painful disconnection.

HESCO drive for recovery of over Rs56.22 billion will continue till 100 percent recovery from govt, private consumers.
