Govt preparing reference for legal proceedings against MQM chief: Nisar

RAWALPINDI: Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan is being presented a shield by RPO Fakhar Sultan during his visit to Police Line.

RAWALPINDI, Aug 4: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday said that the government is preparing a reference for legal proceedings against Muthahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain’s controversial speeches.
Addressing a Police Darbar of four districts of Rawalpindi region here at Police Lines, he said, there is no enmity with MQM however, Altaf Hussain’s matter is legal and not political.
The minister further said, the nation will not forget the sacrifices being rendered by the police personnel in the fight against terrorism.
All out efforts are being made to strengthen law enforcement agencies including police, he said adding, maximum available resources are being utilized in this regard.
Chaudhry Nisar expressed satisfaction over performance of the security personnel and said they are fulfilling their duties honestly and efficiently.
He directed the police personnel to work hard to nab criminals.
There is no difference in the working of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Punjab and Balochistan police. The Minister said, Sindh and Balochistan police have killed and apprehended many terrorists.
He said our fight against terrorists is fully in accordance with the Islamic teachings.
The Interior Minister said that the government will not allow anyone to harm the sanctity of national institutions.
Nisar said that the government had not initiated Imran Farooq murder and the money laundering cases against Altaf Hussain.
However, Pakistan and the United Kingdom (UK) are cooperating in both the cases, he added.
The cases are not being heard in Pakistani courts. They were lodged by UK authorities according to their own laws.
“We will approach the British authorities in the next few days and submit legal documents on the matter,” said the minister. “Work is already underway in this regard,” he added.
To another question he said that the British police had commended Pakistan’s cooperation in the investigation of Dr Imran Farooq’s murder case and had written a letter to Pakistani authorities.
The Minister said that Altaf Hussain should stop using provocative speeches against the armed forces, law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
On the occasion, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Capt. (Retd) Zahid Saeed, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sajjad Zafar Dall, City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Abbasi, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Shoaib Khurram Janbaz. Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Operation Rawalpindi, Malik Karamat Ullah, District Police Officers (DPOs) of Rawalpindi Division, SSP, SP and DSP officers, Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, (SIs), Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) and a large number of police officials were present.
Responding to another question, the federal minister said that any negativity on Pakistan’s security interests and dignity of its institutions will not be tolerated whether it comes from Altaf Hussain or others.
Earlier, the Minister laid a wreath at Martyrs’ Monument at Police Lines.
