Sindh govt to accelerate relief activities in flood-hit areas: Bilawal

SUKKUR, : Chairman Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto reached Sukkur to visit flood hit areas and meet flood affected persons during his visit, in Sukkur

SUKKUR, Aug 9: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party on Sunday paid whirlwind visits to the Sukkur Barrage and Alra Bund in Khairpur, both facing the pressure of floods to monitor the situation and distributed relief goods among the affected people.
He held out assurances to the flood-affectees that PPP won’t leave them alone in this hour of need and they will be fully  supported. “Relief and rescue operations will continue till the food situation persisted,” he announced.
Earlier, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Senior  Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, and others Ministers and elected representatives  welcomed upon reaching the areas experiencing the flooding.
Briefing Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Senior Minister for Irrigation Nisar Khuhro and Secretary Zaheer Hyder Shah informed that  lakhs of cubic feet stones for pitching and machinery is available at 46 sensitive spots. Khuhro further briefed that  Irrigation staff is available for 24 hours monitoring on the Bunds and all preparations have been made ready to face any  eventuality. Flood-fighting is being carried out at the spots where flood water pressure gets enhanced and there is no danger  of any threat as entire government machinery is on alert. Khuhro said he himself is monitoring the situation while relief and  rescue work in Katcha area is continuing.
Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stressed for intense and round-the-clock monitoring of the Bunds. He later visited Alra Bund  and village Garhi Pathan where he intermingled with the flood affectees at  Relief Camps and listened to the problems. He  told the people there that PPP will not leave them alone in this need of hour as the Party belongs to poor, peasants and  downtrodden masses. He said flood affectees will be duly taken care of and protection of the Bunds is among top priorities of  the PPP.
PPP Chairman distributed relief goods among the affected people at the Relief Camp established for villagers from Katcha  areas. Emotional scenes were witnessed when people hugged Bilawal Bhutto Zardari upon seeing him among them. He also shook  hands with the scouts and workers of other organization working in relief. He also visited a temporary school established for  the flood affected children and exchanged greetings with teachers and students there. Bilawal also inquired from the flood  affectees about their conditions and the kind of relief and rescue offered to them by the government.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Senior Minister  Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, MNA Nafeesa Shah, Syed Javed Shah Jillani, Noman Islam Shaikh, Jameel Soomro, Mushtaq Surahyo, Lal Bux  Mangi and others were present during the visit.
