HON’BLE CHIEF JUSTICE OF PAKISTAN MR. JUSTICE NASIR-UL-MULK PRESIDING OVER THE FULL COURT REFERENCE IN SUPREME COURT, ISLAMABAD ON AUGUST 13, 2015

ISLAMABAD, Aug 13:  The outgoing Chief Justice of Pakistan Nasir-ul-Mulk says democracy is the essential requirement for ensuring Rule of Law.
He was addressing a full court reference held in his honour here at the Supreme Court on Thursday. The Chief Justice, who is going to retire on August 16, said a society where power of the ruler is not politically responsible to the people, could turn towards despotism and totalitarianism.
He said the apex court has enforced the will of the people, hoping that democracy will hold the centres of power and the powerful elite accountable through the force of democracy. The Chief Justice said Bar and the Bench are two interdependent and interconnected parts of our justice delivery system.
