WAPDA workers union rally against privatization: Nizamani says corruption rampant in contract system

HYDERABAD, Aug 26: All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union took out a big rally on Wednesday here against the privatisation of national institutes like Wapda and has demanded to restore electric generation and supply system instead of selling it out. Addressing rally of thousands of workers central president of Workers Union Abdul Latif Nizmani said an executive engineer has been posted as CEO of Qesko and system has been corrupted through contract system. He asked for 20% jobs quota for children of employes. He warned FIA to mend its ways and also accused officers of spreading terrorism against employees. He demanded protection to accidents and to regularise the ad hoc employees. He said the electric department and other national institutes were being distributed to favourite persons of rulers under name of privatization on behest of world bank IMF.Rally was taken out from labour hall which after marching on main roads reached press club where it was converged into big public rally. Others who addressed the rally included Iqbal Qaimkhani provincial general secretary, Malik Sultan Ali, Iqbal Ahmed Khan,Hanif Khan, Rafiuddin Shah, Waheed Khan, Abbas Chandio and Asadullah Abbasi.Iqbal Qaimkhani said today’s this big rally and also in all other cities and towns of Sindh proves that the employees of Wapda were determined to save the institute. He asked government to do away with privatization policy othewise their protests would turn out to be what is written on walls. He paid tributes to employees on this successful rally of protest.
