MITHI, Feb 6: The large number of the workers of Awami Tahreek embarked on their long march against the anti-Sindh projects including Gorano dam, water crises, lawlessness, unemployment, terrorism and other issues from Islamkot town of Tharparkar district on last day.
The charged workers including women and children carrying the placards and banners inscribed with the slogans in favor of their demands led by their octogenarian leader Rasool Bux Palejo began their long march on foot under the slogan “Save Sindh”.
Mr. Palejo talking to the local journalists and his party activists said that they had launched their peaceful march to save Sindh from the wolves, who according to him, had plundered the resources of the province mercilessly without any let or check. ” We are not against China Pakistan Economic Corridor but nobody will be allowed to dislodge the local people and cause destruction in the name of the projects ” he said and added that China must act wisely before carrying out the controversial projects under CPEC. ” The water reservoir on 1,500 acres of the land will only cause widespread devastation in the lands of Gorano and over 12 other villages of the region when the water from the coal mines from Block II of Thar Coalfield will be pumped into it” added Mr. Palijo.
He said that their march from Islamkot to Karachi would create the ripples would help people get their rights. He alleged that wrong and self-centered policies had only led the society to ruination and brought the whole on the brink of the disaster. He observed that the people of Thar had written a new history of the peaceful protest against the construction of the hazardous water reservoir adding he urged rulers to mend their ways and avoid to impose such detrimental schemes.
“There must be difference democratic rulers and traders “he added and said that rulers were treating the people worse than animals. Party president Ghulam Nabi Khoso observed that Thar region was passing through the critical phase and there was need to press the rulers to give the fundamental rights, equal opportunities in the various coal – based plants to Tharis. He observed that PPP government instead of giving rights to Thari people was trying to push them to walls for their vested interests. Wasand Thari, Zahida Shaikh, Mir Hassan Arisar, Qadir Ranto and other leaders also spoke on the occasion.
