HYDERABAD, Feb 14: A 15-day plantation campaign at Sindh University has been launched on Tuesday with the vision to make the varsity green and eco-friendly amid festive sight of students’ uproar, cheers and accolades.
Inaugurated jointly by SU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Burfat, MUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aslam Uqaili, Commissioner Hyderabad Qazi Shahid Parvez, Deputy Commissioner Jamshoro Munwar Ali Mahesar and Deans of various faculties, teachers and officers, a large number of students planted their respective share of saplings at different locations of the campus.
Soon after inaugurating the campaign after planting saplings at Administration Block, the dignitaries proceeded to Arts Faculty Ground where they participated at a ceremony organized by the Bureau of STAGS, University of Sindh. Addressing a swelling crowd of students who had come along their academic heads to listen to their inspiring academic leaders, VC-SU Dr. Burfat said that he considered University of Sindh his Valentine and pledged his love for the Alma Mater to mark the day.
He also insisted on students to follow suit. He on the occasion introduced the slogan of “S.U – Love U” to the over-enthusiastic student mob, and stressed on them to own their institution in letter and in spirit. Dr. Burfat said he was extremely proud to be parent of 32000 students. “I consider each one of you as my own daughter and son”, he said addressing the cheering crowd.
He also told students that they were fortunate to be inheritors of as great intellectual luminaries as Shah Abdul Bhittai, Sachal Sarmast, Sami, Iqbal, Ghalib, Rumi and Saadi who all taught and inspired them to love and respect one another and treat all with humility and care.
Dr. Uqaili said that those who led got to tackle trials and tribulations. He congratulated Dr. Burfat upon initiating the process of change at the varsity.
Divisional Commissioner Hyderabad Kazi Shahid Parvez said he heralded success as he saw Dr. Burfat working diligently to change fate of the university. He informed students that 3 Jamshoro universities, Jamshoro town and Kotri had been included in ‘solid waste management plan of Government of Sindh and soon they would have western, resembling neat, clean and green campuses.
The Vice-Chancellor Dr. Burfat appreciated the noble gesture of Munwar Ali Mahesar, Deputy Commissioner Jamshoro for gifting 2000 saplings to University of Sindh and for his constant cooperation. He also eulogized the efforts of Prof. Dr. Akhtar Hussain Moghal, Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Dr. Fida Hussain Chandio, Director, Bureau of STAGS and Mahar Ali Kazi, Incharge, Plantation and Beautification Section.
