HYDERABAD, Feb 15: Hyderabad, Qasimabad and Latifabad were hit hard by water crisis since last one week as employees of Wasa (water and sewerage agency of H.D.A) were on strike for non payment of salaries since last 6 months.
One employee of Wasa Atiq Rehman committed suicide by hanging himself in his home because of starvation his family was suffering without salary. He was working in Wasa since last 15 years. He has left behind 2 sons and a daughter. Wasa employees were on hunger strike since last one week due to which 2.5 million citizens were facing crisis of water. Sindh government or for that matter Commissioner Hyderabad has taken no notice of water crisis and plight of employees whose families were undergoing starvation since last many months. Wasa employees have been holding protests but the authorities have turned blind eyes to their demands.
It is reported that since a year or more Hyderabad Development Authority was without director general as Commissioner Hyderabad was holding same charge but due to his being head of administration of division which comprises 9 districts he has not been giving time to solve issues of H.D.A including plight of employees for non payment of salaries. The non payment of salaries to employees and crisis of drinking water have started to take ugly shape with suicide of one employee. Meanwhile the hunger striking employees of Wasa have condemned apathy on part of government and after getting indignant on sad incident of suicide of one of their colleagues, employees union has announced to stop work on drainage pumps from today.
