FBR successfully recovered Rs.56 billion on May 31 (One Day)
KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has many faithful officers doing untiring efforts for the cause of progress of the country. Among them a BS-19 officer Mr.Hyder Ali Dharejo put vigorous efforts and prepared case for the state against Dawlance owners, resulting recovery of Rs.6.2 billion on May 31, following the judgement announced open in the Court of Special Judge (Customs & Taxation), Karachi in Case No.133 of 2016 on 26th.
Earlier, Mr.Dharejo, the then Director Inland Revenue, Intelligence & Investigation, Karachi had lodged the complaint in the Court in November, 2016. According to the details, the directors of Dawood/Dawlance group namely Mr.Bashir Dawood and Mrs.Mariyam Dawood sold their interest in a company and received a huge amount of $ 3.3 million outside Pakistan and thus caught under Anti-Money Laundering Act 2010.
It is pertinent to mention here that FBR collected an amount of Rs.56 billion on May 31, out of which Rs.30 billion were contributed by the Large Taxpayers Unit, Karachi consisting a considerable share by way of recovery from above Dawlance directors wherein Hyder Ali Dharejo played a vital role and ‘a role model’ for others in the exemplary achievement.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in his recent visit to FBR Headquarter addressed the FBR members headed by FBR Chairman Dr Muhammad Irshad to take enforcement measures to meet the assigned revenue collection target of Rs 3.621 trillion for 2016-17.
Dar’s address mainly focused on measures to overcome revenue shortfall during current fiscal year. Finance Minister directed the tax managers to meet the target or at-least close to the target of Rs 3.621 trillion for 2016-17.
FBR’s all field offices remained opened and observed extended working hours on May 30th and 31st 2017 until 6:00pm for collection of duties/taxes (despite Ramadan’s reduced working hours).
FBR field offices established liaison with SBP and NBP through various authorized branches of NBP in their respective jurisdiction to ensure transfer of tax collection from these branches on or before 31-05-2017 to reach the Treasury, the same day so as to be accounted for towards collection for May, 2017.
