HYDERABAD: Consul general of Germany Rainer Schmiedchen urged for enhancing bilateral economic cooperation between Germany and Pakistan.
Speaking at “Meet the Press” at press club on here on Tuesday evening he said that his visit was aimed to advertise for Germany and to apprise people of good projects in Germany and Pakistan for enhancing bilateral economic cooperation between two countries.
“I would like to highlight a few businesses between the two sides. While giving football to officer bearer of the club, football is a symbol of cooperation between two countries. It looks like German style but produced in Pakistan as this is most important export goods,” he said.
He said Germany had also ample exports from Pakistan under the GSP plus system each year. Pakistani economy especially Karachi was getting progress in terms of economy. Germany had many projects in all spheres including vocational training, culture and others. “We are German we have high production system,” he said adding that there was need of skilled workers in Germany as they are paid handsome salary packages with many facilities but both governments should make cooperation in this respect and work together in the field of water, energy, renewable energy especially wind power and others adding that Germany had very good relations with Pakistan.
“I visited some places in Hyderabad as it is the second biggest city of Sindh and found people very dedicated to work. It has high-rise buildings and old buildings as well. I have also met and talked to Hyderabad chamber of commerce and Industry (HCCI) office-bearers about exploring business opportunities and it is very interesting,” he said.
Many German companies were making good investments and working on projects in various parts of Pakistan including Karachi, Lahore. He said that Hyderabad was an important place in terms of agriculture and agricultural products and food, while there were some other sectors where businesses could be explored.
About Panama scandal, he said that this was not problem of Pakistan and many countries were facing this kind of problems. There are some cases even in Germany, he said adding that this problem should be taken worldwide. Speaking about culture and heritage, he said that Germany planned to organize German weeks from Oct 6 to mid December by consulate general of Germany at Goethe institute Karachi, but this time it would reach Hyderabad as well.
Commenting on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), German companies would surely make investments in various sectors including energy, infrastructure and others. it was a level playing field for German companies, he said and described CPEC as good project.
