Haneke film wins Cannes Palme d’Or
LOS ANGELES:Amour stars octogenarians Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva and tells the story of Georges and Anne, a couple trying to cope with their new reality after Anne suffers a stroke.
Accepting the award with his stars, Haneke dedicated it to his wife and said: “This film is an illustration of the promise we made to each other, if either one of us finds ourselves in the situation that is described in the film.”
Haneke’s The White Ribbon won the Palme d’Or in 2009.
Mads Mikkelsen won the award for Best Actor at Cannes for his performance in The Hunt, while the Best Actress award was shared by Cristina Flutur and Cosmina Stratan for their performances in Beyond the Hills.
Beyond the Hills’ director, Cristian Mungiu, won the Best Screenplay award.
The award for Best Director went to Carlos Reygadas for Post Tenebras Lux.
The Grand Prix award went to the Matteo Garrone film Reality, with Ken Loach’s The Angel’s Share winning the Jury Prize.
