16th Convocation of Hamdard University held
KARACHI: Hamdard University’s 16th Convocation 2012, was held on Saturday March 24, 2012, at University’s Main Campus, Madinat Al-Hikmah, Karachi in which in all 1337 degrees were awarded to the passing graduates 760 students recipients and 577 in absentia of all seven faculties of the University. 4 Ph.D were awarded in education and social sciences, 4 in Engineering sciences and technology and one in Eastern medicine and 6 M. Phil degrees were awarded 3 in education and Social Sciences and 3 Eastern Medicine. Hamdard University’s Gold Medals and Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said Gold Medals were awarded respectively to 28 students, who had secured first positions in various batches during their course of studies in the University and to 8 graduates from each faculty, who remained best students throughout their studies in University.
Degrees and gold medals were given away to the graduates by the chief guest of the convocation, Zubair Motiwala, Chairman, Sindh Investment Board, President Pak Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Karachi and Ex-Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh, Chancellor of Hamdard University, SM Zafar, Sadia Rashid, and President Hamdard Foundation Pakistan.
Oath Taking Ceremony of MBBS and BDS Graduates and the BEMS graduates of Eastern Medicine was also held in the convocation 2012 of Hamdard University.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Zubair Motiwala said that First of all the congratulated to the passing graduates who were now going to the practical life.
He told to the graduates that Pakistani Nation was second to none and if they resolved to do they could make impossible a possible and complete to even develop nations.
“We have huge land to cultivate and huge, huge reservoirs of coal which are more valuable than the Oil of Iran and Saudi Arabia,” he said, adding that the graduates should come in business and trade and keep it in mind that it was not the destiny of Pakistan being remained a third world country.
Commending the services of Hakim Said, he said that Hakim Sahib was a multifocal person, an idealist, innovator and philanthropist who spend his whole life in service to the nation. “I Salute Him” he maintained.
SM Zafar, Chancellor, Hamdard University in his speech said that this time 23thd March come on Friday while Pakistan also come into being on Friday 14th August 1947. Pakistan become Asian Champion and took Asia Cup on 22nd March. Sharmain Chinnoy won Oscar Award on her documentary film “Pakistani Nation”, has great talents as I see here angles of change in students of Hamdard University”, he said, adding “Abdul Sattar Edhi Foundation is a largest service to people in the world”.
